The Centre offers a three-year full time course providing a unique breadth of training in dance and musical theatre for students aged 16+ who wish to perform.
The course is designed to offer students the following:
- An environment that embraces the changing demands of the dance and musical theatre industries.
- A unique breadth of subjects studied throughout the course.
- A supportive and caring educational experience.
- The opportunity to achieve all units of Diploma in Dance Instruction and Diploma in Dance Education in three dance genres.
- Performing and teaching opportunities for all students.
- Access to a first class professional teaching faculty and guest teachers.
The Curriculum
First Year:
During the first year students focus on gaining strong technical skills in all practical disciplines. This is supported by lectures on nutrition and hydration, injury prevention and management and anatomy and physiology. Students work towards Vocational Graded Examinations (VGE) and Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI). Performance opportunities throughout the year help to develop artistic confidence.
Second Year:
Second year students continue to build on technical skills achieved during the first year, further emphasis is placed upon developing artistic quality and creativity. Students continue to enter Vocational Graded Examinations (VGE), complete Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) and begin working towards Diploma in Dance Education (DDE). Performance and teaching opportunities are available during the second year.
Third Year:
The curriculum broadens and includes guidance on career matters including tax, grooming and CV/portfolio preparation. Students have continual access to our photographer ensuring their portfolios are as representative as possible. Students also benefit from audition technique classes taken by tutors and visiting professionals.
Students have access to performance opportunities throughout the year including: in house productions, "Move It" and Centre Stage.
All third year students also have the option of completing Vocational Graded Examinations (VGE) and Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) in three dance genres. The Centre's unique combination of performance related studies and acquisition of teaching qualifications ensures all graduates are fully equipped to enter their chosen profession.

Assessments:
Assessments are held regularly throughout the course allowing tutors to carefully monitor each student’s progress.
I.S.T.D. Examinations:
Students have the opportunity to enter Vocational Graded Examinations (VGE) in three dance genres throughout the three year course. Students working towards Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) and Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) qualifications commence examinations of individual units during the first year.
Male Students:
Specialist classes for male students include Ballet, Modern, Double Work, Virtuosity and Fitness.
Master Classes:
In addition to the core curriculum The Centre offers a wide and varied programme of master classes, workshops and lectures. All students benefit from exposure to eminent theatre directors, musical directors, choreographers, and industry professionals. These master classes are included in termly fees.
Performance Opportunities:
The Centre is regularly asked to provide students for a variety of events across the performing spectrum including charity galas, cabarets, hair shows, workshops, theatre, music videos, television, opera and film.
In House Productions:
Throughout the year, The Centre produces a number of in house productions featuring one or more aspects of the course curriculum. Including: Musical Theatre, Song, Drama and Dance.
Open Days:
Open Day allows teachers, prospective students and their parents to view the work of the college. In addition visitors will have the opportunity to take a guided tour around our facilities, work with members of the teaching faculty, view students current academic work and meet the senior management team.
Centre Stage:
Centre Stage is held annually and all students perform and actively participate in the production of the show.
Teaching Opportunities:
At The Centre we are frequently asked to provide students to assist or teach classes for local dance schools. This offers students invaluable experience towards their teaching examinations.
Professional Development Programme
The Professional Development Programme is for graduates of The Centre who wish to further their ISTD teaching qualifications.
The Professional Development Programme offers the opportunity to complete Diploma in Dance Instruction and Diploma in Dance Education and gain Licentiate and Fellowship examinations in Ballet, Modern and Tap genres. All courses commence in September and run throughout the academic year.
The Faculty coaching Status Examinations includes ISTD Committee Members and Examiners who still play an active role in creating syllabi and lecturing for the ISTD.
