The Centre offers a two/three-year part time course providing a comprehensive training catering for students aged 16+ who wish to teach dance. The course is designed to offer students the following:
- An environment that embraces the changing demands of the dance teaching profession.
- A comprehensive range of subjects studied throughout the course.
- A supportive and caring educational experience.
- The opportunity to achieve all units of Diploma in Dance Instruction and Diploma in Dance Education in three
dance genres.
- Teaching opportunities for all students.
- Access to a first class professional teaching faculty and guest teachers.
- A course that can be tailored to the individual. Duration of the course will be dependant
upon age and level of entry.
The Curriculum
First Year: During the first year students focus on gaining strong technical skills in all practical disciplines. This is supported by lectures on nutrition and hydration, injury prevention and
management and anatomy and physiology. Students work towards Vocational Graded
Examinations (VGE) at Intermediate level and Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) in three
dance genres.
Second Year: Second year students continue to build on technical skills achieved during the
first year, further emphasis is placed upon developing artistic quality and creativity. Students
complete Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) in three dance genres and/or begin working
towards Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) in three dance genres. Teaching opportunities
may become available during the second year.
Third Year: Third year students complete Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) in three dance
genres. The acquisition of teaching qualifications that enable graduates to enter candidates
for ISTD examinations ensures all graduates are fully equipped to enter their chosen
profession.

The above examination classes are timetabled and are included in termly fees.

Audition Format:
Entry for students aged 16+ is by audition only;
Audition fee - £40.00 (incl. VAT)
| Auditions consist of: |
- Ballet class
- Dance arrangement suitable for Grade 3: Ballet, Modern or Tap (maximum 45 seconds).
- Dance arrangement suitable for candidate: Ballet, Modern or Tap. (maximum 1½ minutes).
- Physical assessment.

For overseas applicants who can travel to The Centre, normal audition procedures apply. Those who are unable to travel to The Centre may audition by video/DVD. Please contact The Centre to
discuss suitable content. A report from your current performing arts tutor
will be required.
Successful applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £175.00 to secure their place.

Whilst every effort will be made to adhere to the dates published above they may need to be changed or cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.
Fees:
Tuition fees for the 2012 Diploma in Teaching Studies Course will be
£1800.00 + £ 360.00 VAT (@ 20%) = £2160.00 per term.
- Fees cover tuition including coaching for I.S.T.D. Vocational Graded Examinations at Intermediate level and all units of DDI and DDE teaching qualifications.
- Please note, fees do not cover the cost of syllabi, dancewear, uniform, examination
fees or The Rehabilitation Programme.
- The Centre is in Application for Membership Status with The Council for Dance Education and Training.
