Miss King is presented with the I.S.T.D. Imperial Award 2017

Karen King – founder and Principal of The Centre PAC is honoured to receive the ISTD Imperial Award 2017.

Miss King trained at Bush Davis and Faulkner Hembrey, Romford and then full time at Bird College.

After graduation she enjoyed performing worldwide before returning to teach at Bird College in 1981. During the twelve years spent teaching at the college, Miss King gained the ISTD Licentiate and Fellowship examinations under the personal guidance of Miss Bird and became an Examiner and then a Committee Member for the Modern Theatre Faculty. She was also privileged to be part of the teams that created various syllabi for the Modern Theatre Faculty.

After leaving Bird College following the the birth of her second son, Miss King coached existing dance teachers who wished to further their teaching qualifications, many of whom are now examiners and committee members for the ISTD.

Due to the success of these classes and by popular demand, in 1997 Miss King founded The Centre Performing Arts College, a vocational college training performers and dance teachers. The college has graduates performing and teaching worldwide and celebrates its 21st Anniversary in 2018.

Miss King is currently a member of ISTD Council, and also serves on the Qualifications and Standards Development Committee, The Governance Review Group and The DDI and DDE Review Group.

She is delighted to receive The Imperial Award.
